Gut Health

Gut health is one of the most important aspects of your body to look after.

It is so important for your anxiety because your gut is where most (90%) of your serotonin is produced (the happy hormone) that reduces anxiety.

The human gut is more complicated than previously thought. It has a large effect on the health of the body. A healthy gut contributes to a strong immune system, effective digestion, brain health, heart health, improved mood, healthy sleep, and it may help prevent some cancers and autoimmune diseases.

The health benefits of having healthy, diverse bacteria in your gut include improving immune function, and lowering the risk of heart disease, depression, irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes, asthma, and some allergies.

But how quickly can you improve your microbiome?

The gut has a huge number of bacterial cells, there are trillions of microbiome cells in the body in the form of fungi, viruses, and bacteria. There are more of these cells in the gut than human cells in the body.

It is so important to keep the gut healthy because the gut is linked to every organ in the human body.

Shown by the British Dietetic Association that our microbiome and gut bacteria has a key role in digesting food, the breaking down of fibre, and absorbing all the nutrition. The bacteria produce several vitamins, such as B2, B12, vitamin K and folate. They also reduce inflammation by producing short-chain fatty acids, which may lower cholesterol and blood-sugar levels and protect against colon disorders.  Infection-fighting cells are also stimulated in the blood stream.

Kefir's benefits for mental health

Kefir supports healthy neurotransmission and the proper operation of the nervous system because it includes considerable amounts of calcium, vitamin A, and billions of beneficial bacteria.

Science suggests that the live bacteria in kefir may also be beneficial.

According to a review of studies printed in the journal General Psychiatry, people who suffer symptoms of anxiety may benefit from adopting actions to control the microbes in their gut using probiotic food.

There is growing evidence that gut flora can affect mood and prevent depression. As recently as February 2019, findings from two sizable studies on Europeans revealed that individuals with depression lacked several types of gut bacteria, indicating that gut bacteria may produce chemicals that alter the function of nerve cells and mood.

Animal research in the past has shown comparable outcomes. Mice fed Lactobacillus, a probiotic bacteria found in live-culture dairy products like kefir, were treated for depressive symptoms by researchers at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. One strain of Lactobacillus has the power to affect mood, according to researchers.
